Who pays for the assessment?
Through the Green Loans Program, householders are able to access a free, comprehensive Home Sustainability Assessment to reduce their energy and water bills, increase the comfort of their home and help reduce damaging carbon pollution.
The cost of Home Sustainability Assessments is fully subsidised by the Australian Government. No fee should be paid by the Household to the Assessor for a Green Loans Home Sustainability Assessment.
Are renters eligible for a free home sustainability assessment?
Yes, providing they are listed on the current lease. Of course, you must adhere to the requirements of your lease in making any changes to the property.
Are new homes eligible?
The Green Loans Program is aimed at increasing the efficiency of existing homes. The dwelling being assessed must have been completed and occupied for at least 12 months (not necessarily by the applicant). Suitable proof may include a certificate of occupancy or similar issued by a local or state government agency.
My report seems to have mistakes in it - can I get it fixed?
If you feel that there is a problem with your report you can contact the Green Loans enquiry line. They will take down your name, booking number and the details of problems with the report. The Department will then review your report to see if a new report should be issued.
The Green Loans enquiry line can be contacted on 1300 778 451. The line operates 8.00am - 6.00pm AEST, Monday to Friday.
I'm waiting for an assessor to become available in my area
Householders in areas where there are no accredited assessors that wish to have a free home sustainability assessment completed are placed on a waiting list. When an accredited assessor becomes available in their area, these households will be notified.
